The Humiliators

Echoes of the Past: My Heritage Across Borders – Part V
The Humiliators

Naive individuals—often labelled as fools—are quick to embrace new ideologies without fully grasping the weight of what they accept. Much like the Trojan horse, these ideas slip into our minds disguised as gifts, promising salvation and a brighter future. Yet, they deliver only pain, suffering, and death when the veil is lifted. In this moment of realization—when we understand we’ve been deceived once again—despair sets in. Our decisions have come with a steep price, and the paralysis of regret takes hold. For many, the easiest escape becomes the bottom of a vodka bottle, numbing the pain as the grip of mortality tightens and the scourge of drunkenness takes root.

In both the USSR and, later, the Russian Federation following "perestroika," the people were deceived not once, but twice. First, in 1917, with the grand illusion of a socialist utopia, and again in the 1990s with the false promise of capitalist peace and prosperity.

The lifespan of a socialist lie is about 75 years. The first generation believes in the dream, fights for it, and dies for it, fully convinced of its truthfulness. The second generation knows nothing else carrying the system’s weight, hoping it will somehow prove true. But by the third generation, the cracks are too evident, and people begin to seek a way out, hoping to preserve their dignity in the process.

Then came the 1990s. The Soviet Union, bankrupt both economically and ideologically, was at the end of its wits and collapsing. Its leaders sold out the crumbling superpower to Western interests, hoping that Russia would be welcomed as an equal on the world stage. But history tells a different story. Gorbachev and the Soviet elites were traitors, and Reagan, along with Western leaders, were deceivers. While the Soviet regime needed to end, the West, led by the United States, revelled too much in its destruction. They celebrated their Cold War "victory" in a drunken haze, ascribing the collapse to their own cunning and superiority, forgetting that there is a God who directs the course of history. Instead of giving glory to Him, they claimed the triumph as their own.

Rather than extending a hand of partnership, the West humiliated the former USSR, carving it up and splitting it apart while coveting its vast natural resources and wealth. The Russian nation became a playground for oligarchs—puppets controlled by Western interests—who plundered its natural resources with impunity. Millions of Russians were plunged into poverty and confusion, left to navigate the chaos of a collapsing system on their own. Crime surged, and workers often went unpaid for months, sometimes even a year. Desperation led many to commit crimes, while dishonesty and corruption infiltrated the newly founded businesses, further degrading the country’s social fabric. Alcoholism, accidents, violent crime, and hunger ravaged the population, leaving behind a generation broken by promises unfulfilled.

In the former USSR republics, particularly in the "mortality belt" that stretched from Estonia to southern Ukraine, the 1990s witnessed a sharp rise in death rates. Two world systems collided, yet neither brought true benefit to the people.

For a brief moment, the world became unipolar, with the United States reigning as the dominant hegemon, controlling global affairs. They sought to establish a one-world order, but corruption, arrogance, and godlessness undermined their ambitions. Their grand vision crumbled, as all empires do when built on such rotten foundations.

The prophet Isaiah once spoke of how God used Assyria as His instrument to punish Israel and Judah for their immorality and idolatry. At first glance, this seemed perplexing—why would God use a pagan nation to discipline His chosen people? But God's sovereignty knows no bounds; He can use even the godless to fulfill His purposes. Yet Isaiah also foretold that Assyria would face judgment for its excesses and enjoyment in demolishing Israel. In much the same way, the United States and its Western allies took excessive delight in humiliating, dismantling, and crippling the USSR. Now, they, too, must answer for their arrogance and sins.

As we observe the slow implosion of these once-mighty superpowers, it becomes evident that Western nations, often blinded by their self-importance, are facing a harsh reality. The global stage is shifting, and a time of reckoning is drawing near. The very unholy forces they once unleashed upon the world now return to their doorstep, demanding accountability and change. The question is no longer if but when they will confront the consequences of their actions—and what that will mean for the future.
